The Museums and Historical Heritage Department brings together the city's museum collections and the City of Art and History label. The activities offered by the public sector aim to enable all audiences to learn about the history and architecture of the city and the works of art preserved there.

- The Maison des Musées and its themed exhibitions.

Since 1992, Bourges has been part of the national network of more than 200 Cities and Regions of Art and History. The Ministry of Culture awards this label to local authorities that promote their heritage. It recognises areas that are actively committed to knowledge, conservation and mediation. It guarantees the competence of the tour guides and project managers of Cities and Regions of Art and History and the quality of their work.
